5 Essential Tips for Positioning Your Store

In order for the most used search engines, Google and Bing , to show our store the first results of a search it is necessary to optimize our site so that it has a good structure (for Google robots!)

   What does this mean?

Optimization SEO (for its acronym in English, Search Engine Optimization) or optimization for search engines is dedicated to refine details of the content of each page of our website.

For example:

That the addresses of the pages are descriptive

Do not repeat content on pages with different addresses

That the attributes in the metadata of the page are descriptive of the content

One of the most known and respected sites for SEO optimization is SEOMoz ( now known as Moz ).Moz people made a very interesting beginner’s guide, recently translated into Spanish by SEO.pe : SEO Guide for Beginners .

Why is SEO so important?

If our store sells unique products, we want it if someone searches the Internet to find them on the first page. All of us who search for Google very rarely get to the second page of the results. For example: You can start by looking at your brand name in Google and see how many of your results appear in the first five positions.

Tip # 1: Use Google Webmasters Tools to get started

Google Webmasters Tools is a free tool from Google that gives us useful information to correct problems with the content of our site. It is easy to install and allows us to see common errors like:

Pages with duplicate title tags

Links that lead nowhere

Tip # 2: Use Google Chrome and MozBar to analyze your pages

If you do not already have it, download and install Google Chrome, the Google browser. Open Chrome and install the Moz bar .Now, every time you find a page in your store, you will see a button to the right of the address bar. When you want to analyze the content of each page, you can click the Moz icon and see the details.

For example:

If you lack information in any of these fields, you have to make sure that this is not the case.

Tip # 3: Make sure all the content on a page is consistent

When we refer to the content on a page we are talking about all this:

The web address (also known as URL)

The title (All pages should have a unique title)

The descriptions (Here we explain how to write a description that sells)

The photos (All should have a description in the alt attribute )

The metadata (Data invisible to the people, but visible to the search engines)

All stores in OmbuShop can manage all this information from its administration panel. So when you see your product, you should see an address, a title, a description and a descriptive metadata, like this product by Valeria Nicali :

Tip # 4: You need to keep up to date on your sitemap.xml

Think of sitemap files or site maps as a list of files that provide clues to searchers about how your site should be crawled. Sitemaps help search engines find and rank content on your website that they might not have found for themselves. All OmbuShop stores have their sitemap updated by default, but if you do not have your store on our platform, you can go to http://tutienda.com/sitemap.xml and see the content.

If you do not have the file, you can generate it easily with  www.xml-sitemaps.com

Tip # 5: Use Google Analytics to measure traffic per week

You can not control what you can not measure. So set up Google Analytics for your online store.

The information provided by this service is essential, and combined with Google Webmaster Tools, is excellent to know:

What are your most popular products?

What are your most popular pages

Where do your visits come from (Chile, Spain, Mexico, United States, etc?)

How much time your visitors spend on each page.

Google Analytics is a tool with hundreds of functions but the ones that matter most are those that show you the behavior of your customers and the products that sell the most.
